Course Descriptions:Introduction to Disaster Services provides an overview of Red Cross disaster activity. This course is available online at http://www.redcross.org. ERV: Ready, Set, Roll certifies students to drive the Emergency Response Vehicle. Half-day in class, the other half is road test. Prerequisites: Mass Care: An Overview, Bring copy of following day of course: copy of driving record and Defensive Driving certificate (available on-line at safetyserve.com/redcross). Must have valid driver’s license and 21 or older. Fulfilling Our Mission is required for all volunteers and provides the foundation of service delivery standards for the American Red Cross by considering the Fundamental Principles and Values of the Red Cross and how they apply throughout the disaster cycle (prepare, respond and recover). Financial & Statistical Information teaches students for the basic functions of reporting, tracking expenditures, and processing financial paperwork. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission Client Casework provides students to initiate client casework and provide emergency financial assistance on a national disaster. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission DAT 101 prepares students to be local disaster responders. This course introduces students to the local emergency system and how to respond to disaster victims while on –call. Shelter Operations prepares students to manage and operate a shelter in a team environment to meet the needs of people affected by a disaster. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster and Mass Care Logistics teaches students for the basic functions of managing supplies, facilities, and vehicles. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery teaches students basic principles on forming community partnerships to enhance and increase service delivery. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission Recommended: FEMA IS-100, 200, 700, 800 Frontline Supervisor teaches principals of supervising other volunteers and how to handle volunteer human resource issues on disaster assignments. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission Disaster Kitchen Class teaches student how to prepare disaster relief meals using a mobile kitchen. The Spirit of America kitchen is scheduled to come from Roanoake, VA. This is the first time our chapter has offered this course! Prerequisites: Basic Food Safety (available online) Disaster Kitchen Supervision teaches students how to manage, organize, and supervise the disaster relief kitchen. Prerequisites: Disaster Kitchen, Logistics, Logistics Simulation, ERV: Ready, Set, Roll, and Shelter Operations Mass Casualty in Disaster prepares students with the knowledge necessary to respond to disasters involving a large number of deaths.
