Service to the Armed Forces

The American Red Cross has worked side by side with the United States Armed Forces for over 100 years. The American Red Cross provides specialized services for American military and their families, which are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Servicemen and women know they can count on the American Red Cross to help them stay in touch with their families and offer assistance when emergencies arise. >>

Disaster Services

In 1905, Congress mandated the American Red Cross to act as the primary voluntary national disaster relief agency "To continue and carry on a system of national and international relief in time of peace and apply the same in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods and other great national calamities, and to devise and carry on measures for preventing same." Regardless of the extent of the disaster, it is the responsibility of the American Red Cross to help meet the human needs that the disaster has created. >>
