Fundamentals of Chapter Disaster Operations Management (FCDOM)

The purpose of the Fundamentals of Chapter Disaster Operations Management Course is to prepare Red Cross leadership volunteers and employees to manage a small disaster relief operation that is chapter managed and accounted and at least partially funded by the Disaster Relief Fund. This instructor-led and PowerPoint-driven course consists of a series of presentations and interactive discussions with workbook and small table group activities based on a disaster simulation. This method allows participants to apply their learning to real world examples that reflect the work-related challenges experienced by Disaster Services responders.

1. Manage a chapter disaster relief operation using the 5 Key Management & SupervisoryResponsibilities.

2. Explain the essential elements of disaster planning and their relationship to an effective disaster response.

3. Establish and modify service delivery priorities using disaster assessment data and other available information.

4. Develop and execute an efficient and effective Service Delivery Plan in response to a local disaster.

5. Assemble and manage the material and human resources necessary to meet the emergency needs of the disaster-affected community.

6. Process the forms and reports necessary to support a disaster operation; use reports as tools for decision making during the relief operation.
